WI-FI: FIX THE OBTAINING IP ADDRESS ERROR
Even though we have come so far with technology, still, it feels
completely useless sometimes. Especially Wi-Fi. Everyone is dependent on their
internet connection for a lot of reasons, and when it does not function
correctly, it feels the end of the world. One of the most common issues faced
by Wi-Fi users is the obtaining IP address error on Android. This could be
incredibly frustrating if you have a limited mobile data plan.
So,
to make sure that your Wi-Fi does not add up to your annoyance, we have written
down some reasons and solutions to the IP address error.
Causes of the Error
The
basic element on which a Wi-Fi network functions is an IP address that is
assigned to your Android device by the network’s router. If your device does
not have an IP address, you won’t be allowed to connect. Hence, no IP address
means an error and no internet connection.
However,
obtaining an IP address error is not limited to a single cause.
It
could also happen on a network you have connected to a thousand times, or it
could be a new network that you are unable to connect to.
Restart Your Device
This
simple method might help you solve half of the errors on Android. Considering
that your Wi-Fi has been working just fine and suddenly you got the error
message, the reason could be an app that did not start correctly and is now
preventing you from connecting. So, if the issue is with your device, then
merely restarting your device and connecting again might help.
Restart Your Router
Sometimes
it could be the router that is unable to identify the connecting device and is
acting up. If this is the case, then simply try to restart the router. Switch
off the power, leave it off for around 30 seconds, and then switch on the power
again. Try to connect your device again to the Wi-Fi network, once the router
is on.
Reset Your Router
If
restarting your device and router did not work for you, try resetting your
router now. Don’t confuse “reset” with “restart,” they both are completely
different. When you reset a router all its configurations are lost and the
router is restored. To reset the routers, press and hold the reset button until
the router starts again. This way, your router will be assigned a new IP
address to connecting devices.
Forget the Network
Try
removing the networks saved on your Android device. Sometimes what happens is,
the networks do not get stored correctly which makes it difficult for the
router to identify your device and its IP address, resulting in an error. Make
sure that you know the network’s password before reconnecting.
To
remove the saved networks on your Android device, navigate to “Settings,”
select “Network & Internet,” then “Wi-Fi.” Choose the network name and tap
“Forget.”
Select
the network again, enter the credentials, and connect again.
Toggle Airplane Mode
Airplane
Mode cuts off all connections for your Android device, enabling you to refresh
the networks. This eliminates any software issues that might be preventing you
from connecting.
Put
your Android device on airplane mode for a few minutes and then turn the mode
off to try reconnecting to the network.
Change Device Name
There
may be an issue with your device’s name, changing which might help with the
obtaining IP address error on Android
To
do so, navigate to “Settings,” open “System,” then “About Phone.” and then tap
on the “Phone (or Device) Name.” Here, enter a new name for your device and
restart.
This
was all about the ways you can try to fix the obtaining IP address error. We
hope it was helpful.
