Classic American Sitcom Series Frasier Might be Heading for a Reboot

In a world full of reboots, another classic American sitcom television series might be heading in the same direction. According to reports, Frasier might be getting a reboot 16 years after the last episode aired on May 13, 2004. The 11 seasons long show was a spin-off of National Broadcasting Company (NBC) Cheers, a sitcom that premiered on September 30, 1982, and ended its run after 11 years on May 20, 1993.

Frasier featured Allen Kelsey Grammer as Frasier Crane, a psychiatrist who was initially introduced on Cheers as bar waitress Diane’s boyfriend. The situational comedy showcases Shelly Long play the character of Diane, a bar waitress after she is abandoned by her Fiancé Sumner Sloan in the very first episode of Cheers.

Allen Kelsey Grammer Has Been in Contact with Writers to Discuss a Storyline: Reports

Even though there are rumors regarding the reboot, very little is known about the plot, characters, and the release date.

According to reports, Allen Kelsey Grammer has been in contact with writers to discuss a potential script that might retell the story in a completely new way. However, it is not known if the original supporting cast of the series will be considered for the reboot or not. A few of the supporting cast featured names such as Jane Leeves, who played the role of a housekeeper and David Hyde Pierce, Frasier Crane’s brother Niles.

No Clarity on the Release Date

There is no official confirmation on the release date of the Frasier reboot. According to reports, a potential summer 2020 date was considered by the makers. There is a very high possibility that the production might get delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic to ensure the safety of both cast and crew.

A Virtual Reunion of the Cast Members

The main cast of Frasier had a virtual reunion in April 2020 and talked about the show and the time filming on set. The meeting was for a noble cause, i.e. The Actors Fund- a fundraiser for actors in the industry who were rendered jobless due to the COVID-19 crisis. According to reports, Allen Kelsey Grammer stated that he would not return to the show if actors such as Jane Leeves, David Hyde Pierce, etc. don’t come back to reprise their roles.

According to reports, another actor Bebe Neuwirth who portrayed the role of Frasier Crane’s ex-wife stated that she doesn’t mind coming back for the reboot. However, one significant cast member John Mahoney will not be returning since he passed away at the age of 77 in 2018.

Frasier’s Reboot Story Will be Set in a New City

Whenever the production starts and a trailer releases, then only will we come to know a little bit more about the storyline. Although, Grammer said that the viewers might see his character’s son Frederick and understand what he was doing in life for the past couple of years. According to reports, the reboot will not be set in Seattle but a completely different city.
