Facebook’s Updated Chat Plug-In Will Make a Lot of Lives Easier

Everyone is familiar with Facebook’s integrated messaging application, Messenger. Originally, only Facebook users could communicate via the Messenger app, but this new messenger update allows users to chat with businesses directly. The plugin can directly be integrated with external websites and used. This new feature serves as a perk to both the parties. Businesses get a convenient messaging application for direct communication, and Messenger gets to expand its consumer base.

What Has Changed?

This plugin was first introduced in the year 2017. It was introduced as a plugin for external websites, but back then, only Facebook users could make use of its services. With its updated version, even non-Facebook users can access its benefits. This initial restricted version of the app mainly targeted small businesses that didn’t have a live messaging service of their own.

The consumers faced many problems while using the previous restricted version of the plugin. A lot of the customers who were accessing the website from a different device, or had logged out of their Facebook accounts on it, had trouble remembering their passwords. Having to log-in to your social media accounts also meant disclosing personal information that many customers preferred not to do. Logging in also gave the business access to your contacts which meant having to go through the bother of receiving constant promotions and advertisements. Then there is also the hassle of having to log-in at all in the first place. All of these factors made the restricted version of the plugin extremely inconvenient.

In the updated version, there will be an option of using the service “as a guest.” This takes care of all the problems that were faced in the older version. The businesses can still use the service in the same manner, but now even non-Facebook users can have a hassle-free messaging experience. This also makes it much easier for the developer to sell the plugin to a business by telling them that it will be available for use to all their customers.

This is especially beneficial to the businesses that also happen to have a profile on Facebook. They can now use the same messaging service directly on their websites without having to make any additional investment! The update will also sport a new look for its user interface. So, a business is free to choose to install the plugin for their website or not. And if the installation process seems like a lot of work, Facebook says that there are partners who will do it for you!
