HomePod or HomePod Mini: Which Should You Buy?
The first HomePod
turned out in 2018 as Apple’s response to items like the Amazon Echo, yet with
attention on music and great sound. HomePod offers a high-excursion woofer, so
the sound quality is rich. Not only this, but it can work with your home theatre
arrangement with Apple television 4K.
Talking about the price, the HomePod was initially made
available at $399, which has dropped down to $299. However, it’s still
expensive for a great many people. It’s also rather huge and bulky, making it
challenging to move around sometimes.
HomePod Mini, on the other hand, doesn’t offer similar sound
quality as the HomePod. However, it’s as yet a brilliant speaker with its
single full-range driver and double passive radiators. While you don’t get
spatial awareness or home theatre with Apple television 4K support, just like
the HomePod, you get multiroom sound and the capacity to make stereo pairs. The
HomePod Mini is likewise smaller in size and weighs not precisely a pound; so,
you can easily move it around.
While there are pretty much visible differences between the two,
HomePod and HomePod Mini share similarities. Both the devices support services
like iTunes, Apple Music, Apple podcasts, other music services, Siri, and more.
Additionally, playbacks are controllable via touch buttons on both.
If you already own a HomePod, it doesn’t matter if you upgrade
to HomePod Mini because it isn’t exactly an ‘upgrade.’ However, if you’re keen
to buy it, it’ll be a great addition to all your other devices. Notably, pairing
the two, HomePod and HomePod Mini, doesn’t work for stereo sound, but you can
work with them together to stream music across devices.
Talking about not owning a HomePod, getting a HomePod Mini is an
excellent option if you’re fond of Apple’s smart speakers. As mentioned above,
it is easily movable because of its compact size and weighs much less than the
regular HomePod.
Comparing the drivers of the two devices, HomePod Mini doesn’t
match the quality of the regular HomePod, but it is justified considering the
price of the two. You’ll be amazed that the HomePod Mini comes for just $99.
The best part is pairing the two HomePod Mini’s for stereo sound
if you get them in a pair. Isn’t that awesome?
Coming down to the conclusion, if you think that getting a HomePod
Mini is an upgrade, it doesn’t make much of a difference. However, if you want
to get an extra device, it is a viable option to add to your Apple devices
collection.
